The Poem (by Andrew)

The Poem
By Andrew Smith

The Nazi doctor, Aldrek Flekerstine, had been waiting a few hours now.  “Vere is he?” he thought. He had been waiting for Hitler, yes the almighty, terrifying, torturing, murdering, crazed for power man. He needed to talk “business” with him about poem they found. They couldn’t figure out what it meant, it was written in some different language. Here’s what it read:

Ifk kan vak du
Cher min vallderu
Chid vey tay toko heequine dan toko
Kolodu yuak frindo chik yamorda

They had no idea what it meant. Hitler finally opened those cold steel lips. “Vat does it mean?”
“Ve have no idea.”
“Wells figure-zit out!”
“Ve are trying az hard az ve can Adolf!”
“Fine, do it quicker. Ve are vunning out of time.”
The doctor’s face was as red as a lobster dipped in cherry sauce at that point. He didn’t care if this man was the most feared of all. He needed to be able to gain patience. The doctor went back to his lab, sat down at his desk and stared at the poem. He thought about just throwing it in to the fire. He had thought about doing this many times. “Just throw-zit in ze fire.” he thought. But if he did, he had no doubt Hitler would more furious than anyone could imagine. He had been thinking about- “Doctor, doctor!”
“Vat is it?”
“Ze inscription it is old madokic. Ze language of ze long lost nomad zivilization!”
“Vell vat does it mean?”
“If you have power and choose more power over man you vill be more treacherous and more deadly zan anyone could imagine!”
“Ve need to tell Hitler zis. Heil, Hitler!”
“Heil, Hitler!”
He had walked up to the door were the most cold hearted man sat in his office. He went in.
“Vat is it now, doctor?”
“Ve have figured out vat ze poem says, Adolf.”
“Vell?”
“It says ‘If you have power and choose to have more power over man you vill be more treacherous and more deadly zan anyone could imagine.”
“Zis vas meant to happen doctor. Zis vas meant for us. Now we will take over ze world! Zis prophecy was meant to fall into my – I mean our hands! Now I vill be ze most powerful man in ze world! Doctor, I sink you deserve a gift. Go home and stay vith you family for a vhile. Go home and celebrate!”
The doctor couldn’t believe his ears. He would be able to see his family his two beautiful children. Aline, his little baby girl with two bright beautiful green eyes and dirty blonde hair. And his little boy, Aarik he was just about four now, yes his birthday was two months away and he would finally be able to be there! And most of all, his wife, Aaltruide. Being with her in their warm home and with his children.  Finally, finally he was able to be with them. In three years he hadn’t seen them. He couldn’t say how happy he was. He packed up his things and got on the plane. He was sitting in the fourth row back from the front. He fell asleep thinking he would be able to see his family again. He awoke when the plain landed. He got of the plane and walk out onto the streets. He looked and found a taxi. Called for it, got in it like an everyday person would. “Vere to, sir?”
“Seventh avenue street please.”
He sat in the leather-padded seat and just waited. If he waited this long he could wait for a few more minutes. He got out of his car and walk on the snowy white pavement. He forgot it was around Christmas time. He smiled as he saw a glow through the windows. He walked up to the door and stopped. What if it wouldn’t be as good as he expected? What if this was a dream? No, this was real. He was at the front door. The only thing blocking him from him and his family was a wooden door and a doorknob. He took a deep breath and opened the door. He saw his little boy Aarik run up to him
“Dad!”
“Aarik! Aaltruide! Aline! I’m back!”
“Aldrek!?”
“Aaltruide! I’m home!”
“Aldrek!”
“Vheres our baby girl?”
“She’s sleeping. I’m sorry she wasn’t awake ven you came home.”
“No matter. I’ll see her later. All zat maters now is zat I’m home with my family. He said that he was going to go unpack. He had gone into he and his wife’s room and started unpacking. A piece of paper dropped out of his suitcase. Vat? He picked it up and saw that is was the poem. He thought he must’ve accidentally put in when he was packing at Head Quarters. He put in his desk beside his part of the bed and walked out of the room to be with his family. He wasn’t going to let that little piece of paper ruin his time with them.  About a week later his wife knew that Hitler might be able to take over the world. They knew if he did it could be dangerous. He could want more than the world and he might do something disastrous. He went back to studying the poem From time to time. Aldrek went on like that for about three more months. Then one night he was sitting in front of the fire. He was holding the paper and he noticed a little flicker went he held the paper at a certain angle he looked even closer and he saw more words. He saw more of the poem. He wrote it down. He looked at when he was done writing:

Huy kok derf gond kolod dan chidoer grashum den vey Shradol

It took him a couple of hours but he finally figured out what it meant. It said, “But gain to much power and your downfall will be great.” he now knew what was happening. This is probably why he was getting those letters about parts of Europe were being taken back. He knew what would happen next. Hitler had rose to great power in a matter of months. He knew what this meant. He knew that Hitler was going to be defeated. He knew Hitler would die. He needed to be stopped. He would rise up to great power and then be destroyed. Hitler had to know. He wrote a letter saying Hitler needed to go somewhere safe and stay there for a while. But of course Hitler, with pride, said that he shouldn’t worry and that soon he would have the world in his hands. Aldrek was furious but he kept hold of his tongue because he knew he would get “punished” somehow. He knew that Hitler couldn’t be stopped and he knew no matter what that the so-called prophecy, as Hitler said, would come true. He had only waited two months and then he got the letter. It said that Hitler had been confiscated. On May 3rd, 1945, the Almighty, terrifying, torturing, murdering, crazed for power man, had died. This was what made Aldrek Flekerstine a different man. He saw that even the most powerful men and women could be stopped, just as Hitler did. On May 7th, 1945, the world was told that the war had ended. There was much rejoicing across the world and everyone including your grandparents or great grandparents had been changed in some little or big way. Aldrek had been changed for life by this unforgiving war. Many scars would be left behind, but this war that almost caused the world to come to tyranny, came to an end.
